2024 T20 Cricket World Cup

All the top cricketing nations coming together means something special. All come into play to become world champions, regardless of bilateral, trilateral, or continental competition. And this is why the World Cup tournament means the gathering of the players as well as the organizers, the competition, and the waiting for the cricket fans to enjoy the game.

However, the 2022 T20 World Cup held in Australia was held with 16 teams. But the good news for cricket fans is that it will not continue in the West Indies and America’s World Cup to be held next June. According to the report, the ICC is giving importance to two things increasing the number of teams to 20. The first is that all 20 teams will compete at the same time from the start of the tournament. The tournament will be organized in a simple format of four groups with 5 teams each. From there, the top teams will advance to the knockout stage.

Second, the teams will participate in the tournament divided into two parts like the current T20 World Cup. The top teams will join the second phase of the tournament. The teams of associate countries will be promoted from the first phase to the second phase.

It is said that this is how ICC (International Cricket Council) wants to popularize cricket in the United States and its neighborhoods. If the number of teams can be increased to 20 in the T20 World Cup 2024, there will be an opportunity for the United States to join.

Why T20 Cricket is more popular?

Of the three formats international cricket is played in, T20 is the latest and most popular. It is not because of its short duration that t20 cricket is so popular, but because of the excitement, boundaries, over boundaries, and crowd attendance that has made this format more popular. In addition, franchise leagues such as ILP (Indian Premier League), BPL (Bangladesh Premier League), Big Bash League (Australian Professional Club T20 Cricket League), and PSL (Pakistan Professional Club T20 Cricket League) also make T20 more popular Worldwide.
